The Code of Canon Law mandates Finance Councils for all parishes and in the Diocese of Duluth, parishes are required to have Pastoral Councils. These Councils, along with other committees and commissions, serve in an advisory role to the Pastor of the parish in matters pertaining to our vision, our liturgy, our finances, etc. They are avenues in which the members of the parish can offer their talents in service to their brothers and sisters. Pastoral Council The Pastoral Council is a representative body of parishioners that serves the needs of our faith community in collaboration with the Pastor. Members are elected or appointed to represent various groups in the parish. Nominations, followed by an election, take place in the early Spring each year. Elected officers serve three year terms. All parishioners are encouraged to offer their ideas, suggestions and critiques to the members of the council. Finance Committee This committee is composed of five parish members who assist the Pastor and the Parish Council in analyzing parish financial needs, allocation of funds to move parish programs forward and prepare budgets on an ongoing basis. This committee meets at the call of the Pastor. Liturgy Commission The purpose of this commission is to provide the Pastor and other parish consultative bodies with advice concerning spiritual and liturgical renewal in the parish and to recommend to the Pastor sacramental policies and practices consistent with the norms established by the Diocese and the universal Church. The Commission plans, implements and evaluates the regular and special liturgical celebrations of the Church year. The Commission also supports the priorities and policies of the parish as established by the Pastor and the Pastoral Council. Membership on the Commission consists of the Pastor, the Director of Liturgy and representatives appointed from the parish. liturgy[at]sjccduluth.org
