Throughout this site, you'll find that there are many ways to give of yourself to the community of St John's. Our parish is strengthened and our relationship with God is strengthened through our giving and our mutual participation. The Collection The primary source of income for the parish is the regular collection taken at all of our Masses. The collection contains envelope offerings as well as the plate collection. It is necessary that all members of the parish contribute their fair share if we are to maintain a sound financial base in the parish. It is a matter of financial justice that if you use the "services" provided by the parish, e.g. school, religious education, sacraments, etc., you also contribute to the parish to make these ministries possible. If you are new to the parish and are in need of envelopes, please contact the parish office. If you do not use the envelopes provided, the parish will not be able to furnish you with a record of your contributions for tax purposes. If you simply put money into the basket, we also have no way of crediting this to your contributions. It is not just a matter of contributing to pay the parish bills, but also a way in which we thank God for all the gifts He has given to us. United Catholic Appeal (UCA) This collection is the annual appeal from the Diocese of Duluth to fund its ministries, offices, etc. each year. The annual amount is based on the total ordinary income of the parish (plate and envelopes). St John's does get a reduced amount because we have a school. The amount we have to pay the diocese is not just what we collect. If we fall short on our UCA collections, the shortfall will have to come out of savings or general parish revenue. In order to keep the parish budget intact and also not decrease our savings, it is necessary that all make their fair contribution to this collection. Time and Talent Besides the gifts of the contributions of money that are necessary for the well-being of the parish, we are also all blessed with time and talents as well. At times it seems easier to just give money, but we are also in need of your talents and time as well. There are multitudes of ways in which you can share your talents with the other members of the parish. They are God's gifts and we are asked to use them not only for the good of the parish, but for the good of the Kingdom. Volunteer Opportunities • Telephoning
